Nauvoo, Illinois
Orrin Porter Rockwell arrived in Nauvoo, having traveled from Independence, Missouri, where he had been staying with his wife and her family at the time of the Lilburn W. Boggs shooting. Joseph Smith received word on this day that Boggs had been killed at Independence. These early reports proved untrue, as Boggs eventually recovered from his wounds.
