Nauvoo, Illinois
Nauvoo City Ordinance: Established that any male over seventeen years old, and any female over fourteen years old could contract and be joined in marriage as long as they attained the appropriate license and the marriage was solemnized by one with authority. Resolutions called for a tax of one half of one percent on all taxable property in the city, and established a fund for the poor of the City using any surplus Council funds.
