Nauvoo, Illinois
Nauvoo City Ordinance: Refined the ordinance of July 5, 1842 by establishing that whenever a person is brought before the Nauvoo Municipal Court on the basis of a writ of habeas corpus, the court has powers to examine the origin, validity, and legality of the writ of process under which the arrest was originally made. If the writ of process appears to be illegal or unfounded, the Court will discharge the prisoner from the arrest.
