Nauvoo City Ordinance: Required each tavern or ordinary eating place within the city of Nauvoo to have appropriate licensure. In order to obtain the licensure the owner was required to allow six freeholders within his ward examine the premises and approve of its condition. Fees and punishments for failure to comply with this ordinance were established.
