Bear Creek, Illinois
Joseph Smith was arrested in Bear Creek, Illinois, on a warrant from Thomas Carlin, governor of Illinois, and was charged as a fugitive from justice. Joseph returned to Quincy and obtained a writ of habeas corpus.
