Joseph Smith Sr. v. Hurlbut: An arrest warrant was issued to Sheriff P. P. Bates, commanding him to take Joseph Smith Sr. and Alvin Smith before the Court of Common Pleas in Canandaigua on "the third Tuesday of May next" [May 18, 1819] to answer Hurlbut in a plea of trespass.
